Greater-Accra Regional Chief Biomedical Scientist, who is also a Hematologist at Lekma Hospital, Comfort Nyameba-Opoku has called on government and the security agencies to arrest and prosecute pastors who keep pregnant women at their prayer camps.
Speaking with Afia Amankwaa on Adom FM’s reality show for pregnant women, ‘Nyinsen Ne Awuor’, she said some pastors convince pregnant women against seeking medical assistance and that create severe complications for such women during delivery.
“Some pastors advise pregnant woman against undergoing caesarean session and rather put them in the camps till it is too late.
“These women do not visit their doctors and don’t take their prescribed medication all because their pastors say they should not and that is gradually contributing to an increase in stillbirths and miscarriages,” she said.
Comfort Nyameba-Opoku said often when matter get worse, the pastors who have been camping them women at prayer camps are the same people who rush them to the hospital.
She said the problem is getting worse by the day so it is time the security agencies intervened and arrested such pastors to prevent the complications, miscarriages, stillbirths, and sometime maternal mortality.
