A commander of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Commander in charge of Detachment Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region have been lynched.

The military officer who is said to have been killed by the youth was jogging along the main road from Diaso to Denkyira Obuasi when he was apprehended by the youth who spotted a pistol on him.

The deceased who was in a civilian attire was mistaken by the irate youth for an armed robber when he had requested for direction from some women.

He was accused of being behind robbery activity that had taken place the previous day as the area is known for robbery activities.

The women alerted the Assemblyman for the area who quickly mobilised the youth in the town to lynch him.

They pelted stones at him and later burnt him to death.

One of the military men who spoke on condition of anonymity bemoaned that his Commander’s plea was ignored.

‘How can they kill our Commander for no offence, we will storm the town, and nobody will be spared,’ he warned.

Denkyira Obuasi is located at the Upper Denkyira district. Diaso is the capital of the district.

The body is currently deposited at the Dunkwa Government Hospital.
