Armed Covid-19 taskforce clears way for isolation centre at Obuasi despite protest

Health authorities at Obuasi have started transferring some Covid-19 patients to an isolation centre despite resistance and protests from members of the community.

Armed members of the Covid-19 Taskforce on Monday night forcibly broke into the private facility put under lock and key by some angry residents.

Angry residents in protest over the location of the centre locked and blocked the two main entrances and road leading to the facility with padlocks and concrete blocks.

It comes as authorities battle to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the mining town of Obuasi, which has recorded more than half of cases recorded in the Ashanti region, making it the new epic centre in the Ashanti region.
