A/R: MMT staff protest over poor working conditions

-

Staff of the Metro Mass Transit Company in the Ashanti region have embarked on a demonstration demanding improved working conditions.

According to the drivers, several efforts to get management to improve their working conditions and pay their provident fund which has been in arrears for years have proved futile.

They claim that over 100 MMT buses have broken down and instead of fixing them, their management has rather spent over 100, 000 Ghana cedis to purchase a new 4×4 vehicle for the personal use of the company’s MD.

Some of the staff who spoke in an interview on Adom News also demanded the immediate removal of the MD, Bennet Abaogye alleging that he is incompetent and unfit for the job.

The drivers also claim that they do not benefit from any form of medical care and are a paltry GHC10 as sleep over allowance.

The workers on Wednesday prevented drivers from moving their buses out of the yard and brought activities to a halt to the frustration of passengers.

However, some minority staff of MMT are opposed to the strike claiming that allegations against the MD have not been backed with evidence.
