Aowin Traditional Council performs rituals to banish MP [Video]

The Aowin Traditional Council in the Western North Region has performed rituals to banish Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Ofori Larbi from stepping foot on their land.

Led by the chief of Omanpe, Nana Opong Payin III, the council slaughtered a sheep and poured libation, calling on the gods of Aowin to accept their sacrifice and act against Mr. Larbi if he defies the ban.

According to the council, the MP has disrespected them by allegedly fabricating false stories against the paramount chief and some divisional chiefs in the Aowin Traditional Area.

They acknowledged that Mr. Larbi was elected to represent the constituents but insisted that due to his continuous disrespect, they could no longer work with him. As a result, he is forbidden from setting foot in any community within their jurisdiction.

The traditional council emphasized that they have no issues with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or the government.

They, however, urged that any government-led development projects should be directed through the Regional Minister or the yet-to-be-named Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

The council has been at odds with Mr. Larbi in recent weeks over his alleged involvement in illegal mining operations in the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve.

Although the MP has strongly denied the allegations, maintaining that he has been actively working to combat illegal mining in the area, there have been calls for President John Mahama to intervene.
