Antoine Semenyo: Bournemouth deserve European Football next season

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo believes AFC Bournemouth’s strong performances this season merit a spot in European competition.

Semenyo scored the decisive goal as the Cherries ended a six-game winless run with a 1-0 victory over Fulham on Monday at the Vitality Stadium.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the 24-year-old expressed confidence in his side’s European aspirations.

“I feel like what we have done this year, we do definitely deserve the European places,” Semenyo said. “All season long, we have been grinding and beating the top six teams. This little phase we are going through, losing and drawing, every team goes through that, but that is why this win is so important.”

Semenyo noted that the celebrations at full-time reflected how much the result meant to the squad.

“We came into the game wanting to give our all, and you could see at the end in the celebrations that it meant a lot. It has been a tough couple of weeks, but it is good to be back on the board.”

His early strike not only sealed the victory for Bournemouth but also marked a personal milestone — his 10th goal of the season in all competitions, the first time in his professional career he’s hit double figures.

In a post-match chat with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, Semenyo shared insight into his striker’s mindset.

“You know me, I have to cook, if I don’t cook, I am not working,” he joked. “As soon as I got it, I knew I was going to shift onto my left, I just needed space. It was a nice, tidy, calm and collected finish. I knew the goal would come, I’m so happy, it’s such a relief.”

Semenyo will aim to carry his fine form into Bournemouth’s next fixture — an away clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
