Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has levelled serious accusations regarding the National Cathedral project’s fundraising efforts.
According to Ablakwa, an American fundraiser has yet to return $6 million that was paid to him under the pretext of raising funds for the project but has not delivered any results.
Ablakwa, speaking on Adom FM’s Burning Issues show with host Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom, criticized the management of the National Cathedral project, citing issues of financial mismanagement and lack of accountability.
He revealed that he personally visited the American fundraiser and expressed frustration over the misappropriated funds.
In addition to the unreturned $6 million, Ablakwa highlighted other financial discrepancies, including allegations against architect David Adjaye, who reportedly received $32 million for his role in the project.
Additionally, Ablakwa also mentioned a $5.8 million charge for adding a restaurant to the cathedral’s design, questioning the justification for such expenses.
“These are serious accountability issues,” Ablakwa stated. “The $339 million cedis that have been spent raises questions. When we assume power, a full probe will be conducted, and those who owe refunds will be held accountable.”
The MP’s comments have ignited a public debate about the financial integrity of the National Cathedral project and the broader issue of accountability in government-funded initiatives.
