Amenfi Central: Joana Cudjoe reveals ‘magic’ that helped her

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has revealed the key factors that worked in her favour following the Sekondi High Court’s decision to set aside an injunction that had barred her from the contest.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, she explained that the success was due to the unity and hard work of her team.

She said, “The magic that worked for me was that the entire team worked together.”

She added that her legal team, consisting of three lawyers, helped speed up the process.

“The legal team did well, especially since there were heated arguments in court, which led to the court lifting the injunction,” she said.

At one point, she noted that her lawyers needed additional support, so they brought in more legal experts.

“My lawyers needed help, and we added more lawyers to come and support us,” she explained.

Mrs. Cudjoe also said the support from the constituents was crucial to her victory.

“I didn’t vote for myself, the constituents did. The court even delayed, but we just did the right thing in court.”

When asked if the legal issues had a negative effect on her campaign, she responded, “No, it has not.”

She further stated that Amenfi Central genuinely loves the NDC, have always been committed and that her personality is exactly what the people want.

“I have worked a lot in the constituency. The people have always wanted me to be their candidate from day one. I have worked for the NDC right from day one, and I have done a lot of business for the party. We have never stopped campaigning, not even for a moment,” she added.

The injunction stemmed from a legal dispute following Cudjoe’s victory in the NDC’s May 2023 parliamentary primaries, where she won decisively.

However, some dissatisfied party members filed a lawsuit, leading to an interlocutory injunction that temporarily prevented her from being recognized as the NDC candidate.

The situation took another turn when the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee annulled the May primary results and held fresh primaries on September 8, 2024, where Cudjoe again emerged victorious.

On Monday, November 11, 2024, His Lordship George K. Gyan-Kontoh ruled that the original grounds for the injunction had changed, particularly since the NDC had annulled the contested May primary and conducted a fresh election.
