Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Asare, has clarified that the Commission has yet to receive an official copy of the recent Sekondi High Court ruling that permits Joana Gyan Cudjoe to contest in the parliamentary elections.
Speaking in an interview, Dr. Asare explained that while the Commission respects the legal process, it will only proceed with allowing the NDC candidate for Amenfi Central to run after receiving the official court documents.
“We are a law-abiding institution and won’t act based on media reports. We need the official copy of the ruling, and once we have it, the Commission will grant her permission to contest,” he said.
However, Deputy National Elections Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Tanko Rashid Computer, mentioned that he personally delivered copies of the ruling to Dr. Asare and Mr. Samuel Tettey of the EC, who acknowledged receipt.
“I’m surprised Dr. Asare is saying this. I handed him and Mr. Tettey copies of the ruling at 4:32 pm, and he confirmed receipt at 5:42 pm,” he told TV3.
Dr. Tanko also revealed that the EC has reportedly ordered new ballot papers to include Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s name.
The Sekondi High Court lifted an injunction against Joana Gyan Cudjoe on Monday, November 11, 2024, allowing her to contest in Amenfi Central after her candidacy was challenged in court by five individuals.
