The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has assured residents that it remains dedicated to ensuring consistent waste collection across all areas under its jurisdiction.
In an interview, AMA’s Public Relations Officer, Gilbert Ankrah, addressed concerns about waste management and homelessness in the city, outlining the assembly’s ongoing efforts to tackle these issues despite persistent challenges.
According to Mr. Ankrah, waste collection is a top priority for the AMA, with daily refuse clearance being conducted in key areas, including Circle. He emphasized that operations remain uninterrupted, even in the absence of a fully appointed mayor.
“If you come to Circle, waste is being cleared in the areas under AMA’s jurisdiction, and the waste is being cleared on a daily basis. Starting this year, we have implemented measures to ensure that the refuse in Accra is collected every day,” he told Channel One TV.
Mr. Ankrah also noted that addressing homelessness in the city remains a complex issue requiring collaboration with other institutions, such as the Social Welfare and other social service agencies.
“The issue of homelessness requires collaboration with other institutions to address it, and we have been working on this,” he explained. “We have collaborated with Social Welfare in the past to address homelessness. There used to be shelters, but as of now, there is no place that I am aware of.”
