The Central Regional Chairman of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs, has launched a spirited defense for Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo Constituency, Nii Lante Vanderpuye for suggesting they would free Abuga Pele from prison if the party wins the next election.
According to Bernard Allotey Jacobs, the MP was being “sarcastic” with the hope of reassuring party members who are downhearted following the conviction.

His comment attracted swift condemnations, with many questioning President Mahama’s real intent during the trial of Abuga Pele.
But the NDC in a rebuttal said it has no such plan to free the former Chiana Paga MP should the party win power in the 2020 elections.
A statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia stressed that, the NDC initiated the prosecution thus cannot turn around to pardon any individual who has been convicted as a result.

He said the gaffe of the Odododiodoo legislator should serve as an example to politicians to be circumspect in their utterance when at public events.
