Alleged GH₵10k and jewellery theft: Search warrants must be conducted with body cams – Tuah-Yeboah

-

Former Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah has called for the mandatory use of body cameras by law enforcement officers during search operations to ensure transparency and accountability.

His comments follow allegations that GH₵10,000 and jewelry were stolen during a National Security raid at the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, raising concerns about possible misconduct.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, March 22, Tuah-Yeboah emphasized that best practices require the presence of either a suspect or an independent witness during searches to prevent disputes over missing items.

“If cameras were turned off, it raises serious questions. Any footage from those cameras should first be reviewed before being taken away for investigations,” he stressed.

He noted that if the allegations of theft are true, then the officers involved may have committed a crime themselves.

To prevent such incidents in the future, Tuah-Yeboah strongly recommended that all officers conducting searches wear body cameras to capture their actions in real time. He argued that this measure would not only protect suspects from potential abuse but also safeguard officers from false accusations.
