President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, March 3, opened the National Economic Dialogue, a landmark initiative aimed at “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together.”
The two-day event, which concludes on Tuesday, March 4, brings together a diverse range of stakeholders, including economic experts, policymakers, and industry leaders.
The forum will focus on six strategic pillars: enhancing macroeconomic stability, driving economic transformation, developing critical infrastructure, implementing structural reforms, fostering private sector growth, and strengthening governance.
In his opening address, President Mahama emphasized the need for candid, solution-focused discussions to tackle Ghana’s economic challenges and opportunities. He reiterated that the dialogue is a crucial step toward revitalizing the economy and building a prosperous future for all Ghanaians.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson also underscored the significance of the dialogue as a platform for reflection, growth, and setting a new course for Ghana’s economy. He acknowledged past economic missteps and stressed the importance of learning from them to shape future decision-making.
According to Dr. Forson, the discussions will provide a roadmap for a more resilient and prosperous economy by addressing pressing challenges and seizing opportunities for growth. He expressed confidence that the insights gained will guide policy decisions and help Ghana avoid repeating past mistakes.
A lineup of distinguished presenters, including Mr. Leslie Dwight Mensah, Prof. Ebo Turkson, Mrs. Abena Osei-Poku, Mr. David Ofosu-Dorte, Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, and Mr. Franklin Cudjoe, will share insights and policy recommendations.
The discussions will be moderated by experts, including former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Paul Acquah, Dr. Edward K. Brown, Mr. Joe Mensah, Mr. Felix Addo, Prof. K. K. Sarpong, and Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG).
With stakeholders from government, business, and civil society in attendance, the dialogue is expected to chart the path for Ghana’s economic recovery and long-term growth.
