All is set for maiden edition of “The Waakye festival” on August 3

The maiden edition of the waakye festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

The event which is expected to bring patrons from far and near is being held by the organizers of Koforidua Fufu Party and Koforidua Marathon, Wise Ink Concepts,

You don’t have to miss out on the culinary event of the year which starts from 6am to 5pm at The Zion School park Kakraba Adade in the Gomoa East District.

The festival seeks to promote the popular Ghanaian local dish and promises to be an event that will leave a lasting impression on the minds of patrons.

It’s been held under the theme, community revitalisation through cultural culinary festival.

It will feature an impressive lineup of local and international cuisine, cooking demonstrations, free health screening, free dental screening; children play grounds and Game Park.

Others include rap battles, dancing competition, eating completion and live entertainment with Artist musical performances.

Over 30 food stalls offering a diverse range of dishes, from traditional favourites to innovative creations.

There will be cooking competition and demonstrations, live music and performances to keep you entertained and a chance to vote for your favorite food vendor.

There will also be meet-and-greet with some renowned Ghanaian celebrities.

Patrons will also be thrilled with performances by Ghanaian musicians including; Koo Ntakra, Santrofie, Babylow, Fresh wan GH, Bush Girl, Vapour, Shata Ratty among other special surprises.

The CEO of Wise Ink Concepts, Mr. Kwabena Bediako Antwi-Dako popularly known as IBK or Wofa 1 is optimistic, this maiden edition will be big.

“Waakye” is derived from the Hausa word shinkafa da wake,” which means rice and beans.

The dish is popular in Northern Ghana among the Hausa communities, whose staple crops are rice and beans.
