The Traditional leaders of the Akyem Kotoku in the Eastern Region have written to the Inspector General of Police, requesting the immediate transfer of Divisional Commander, ACP Samuel Nyamekye Adane Ameyaw from his post in Akyem Oda.
This move comes after the commander’s administration has been deemed tyrannical and oppressive, throwing the traditional area into chaos and disorder.
Historically, the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area has enjoyed relative peace and security, achieved through great cost and sacrifice.
However, since ACP Adane Ameyaw’s arrival, his alleged involvement in chieftaincy affairs has been a significant point of contention.
Specific examples of his actions include undermining sanctions imposed on chiefs in Asene and Afosu, boasting about arresting the Paramount Chief, and opposing the installation of a popular chief in Ayirebi.
In Abenase, he allegedly gave ull support to the current chief, who rules with tyranny and oppression.
The situation escalated when three young men were arrested by Station Master Chief Inspector Richard Mekporsibe for seeking redress against the Abenase Chief.
Even Retired Ambassador Kwame Adu was allegedly threatened by the Divisional Commander.
As a result of that, the chiefs in a petition to the IGP cited by DGN Online noted that ACP Adane Ameyaw’s actions threaten peace, disregard traditional authority, and have the potential to cause further damage.
The Chiefs urged the IGP to remove him from his post to restore order.
This development is not the first time the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area has faced challenges.
In the past, the chief of Akyem Manso, Obrempong Sintim Poku III, was attacked by unknown assailants.
Additionally, there have been disputes and allegations among chiefs in the area.
