President Nana Akufo-Addo has paid glowing tribute to former United States(U.S) President Jimmy Carter following his death.
In a statement, Akufo-Addo eulogised Mr Carter as a “statesman, humanitarian, and advocate for democracy and human rights.”
He commended Carter’s lifelong commitment to compassion, humility, and his efforts to make the world a better place.
“The world has, indeed, lost a good man with his passing,” Akufo-Addo said, highlighting Carter’s empathy and humanitarian efforts that transcended borders, including significant contributions to Ghana.
“Through the Carter Center, the former U.S. President led efforts to eradicate guinea worm disease, bringing immense relief to countless communities in the country,” portions of the statement read.
Akufo-Addo also celebrated Carter’s devotion to democracy and human rights, emphasizing how these values resonated deeply with Ghana and its people.
On behalf of the government and people of Ghana, President Akufo-Addo extended condolences to the Carter family, U.S. President Joe Biden, and the American people.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace in the Bosom of the Almighty until the Last Day of the Resurrection when we shall all meet again.”
Carter, the 39th President of the United States was renowned for his humanitarian work and advocacy for global health, peace, and democracy.
His death was confirmed on Sunday, December 29, 2024, aged 100.
