Akufo-Addo has embarrassed clergy over National Cathedral project – Okudzeto Ablakwa [Video]

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has criticized President Nana Akufo-Addo for allegedly causing embarrassment to pastors who defended the National Cathedral project amidst criticism.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Burning Issues show with host Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom (ABY), Ablakwa accused the President of failing to act transparently and respect the clergy who spoke out in favour of the project.

Ablakwa contended that if Akufo-Addo had been honest and demonstrated good faith regarding the project, the pastors who defended it would not have found themselves in such an awkward position.

He claimed that some clergy were misled into supporting the project by assurances from the President that it was funded by donations, not taxpayers’ money.

The MP further alleged that the project’s current troubles are the result of a lack of sincerity and transparency.

He criticized the project for issues such as inflated pricing and failure to follow proper procurement procedures.

Nonetheless, Ablakwa argued that these mismanagement issues have led to a collapse in public trust and a decline in donations.

“The lack of honesty and the underhand dealings surrounding the project have caused significant embarrassment for those who stood by it,” Ablakwa said. “The project’s credibility has been severely damaged, and this is why donations have dried up.”
