Former Black Stars midfielder, Emmanuel Agyeman-Badu has urged the Black Satellites to target World Cup qualification.

Ghana’s U-20 side have qualified to play in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament next year while serve as a qualifier for the U-20 World Cup scheduled for next year in Chile.

The Black Satellites finished second in the WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship after losing 2-1 to Nigeria on Wednesday evening.

However, speaking to 3Sports, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has urged the team to prepare well ahead of the AFCON tournament and urged them to focus on qualifying for the Mundial.

“We have qualified for the AFCON. We also wanted to win the WAFU B Cup; however, we couldn’t,” he said.

“I wanted them to equal the record we set at our time when we won the WAFU Cup, AFCON and the World Cup. However, all is not lost. We will prepare very well for the AFCON so that we can qualify for the World Cup,” he added.

The former Asante Kotoko midfielder also revealed he was happy about the performances of the team so far.

“I was well impressed. I watched all their games. They have been doing well, they go down and fight back to win games. I know Desmond is a very good and intelligent coach.”

Ghana will be hoping to lift their fifth AFCON trophy when they feature in next year’s African Cup of Nations.
