Africans want you dead before they recognise you – Mimi Michaels

-

Director of Golden Movie Awards Africa, Mimi Adani Michaels has lamented about how Africans prefer to honour the dead instead of the living.

Her statement is in response to a question why the Golden Movie Awards Africa as part of its 5th anniversary is recognising young talents and not the old and veteran movie makers.

Mrs Michaels revealed that five movie personalities namely; Jackie Appiah, Nadia Buari, Van Vicker, Abdul Salam Mumuni and Roger Quartey will be honoured for the service to the movie industry.

She explained to Joy News’ MzGee on ‘The Gist’ that “The people who were there before us should have celebrated them when they were younger.”

“Africans always want you to die before they recognize you. Why not them, they are the young legends and so we think that they deserve it.”

She stated the scheme is not obliged to celebrate the older generation stressing they should have been honoured in their younger days.
