African Games: We will pay 28 hotels when we get money – Sports Minister

-

Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has denied allegations that they owe 40 hotels after the All African Games in Accra.

This response comes after the Ghana Hoteliers Association threatened legal action against the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) over outstanding payments.

But speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, July 24, Mustapha Ussif clarified that out of the 44 hotels engaged, 16 have received full payment.

He assured that plans are underway to settle the remaining debts.

“We engaged 44 hotels during the African Games and as we speak, only 28 of them are being owed by the ministry, the rest have all been paid in full 100%. So, when I saw the report that over 48 hotels threatened to sue the ministry because of nonpayment of bills, those reports were not accurate,” Ussif stated.

“We have paid the remaining 28 hotels more than 40% and when we receive the funding they will be paid. When you have a budget, it doesn’t mean that you have money. As and when we receive money, the rest will be catered for,” he assured.
