The Ranking Member on the Youth, Sports, and Culture Committee of Parliament, Kobena Woyome, has disclosed that $15 million was spent on feeding athletes during the recent African Games.
The 13th African Games took place in Ghana from March 8 to March 23, 2024.
In an interview with Joy News, Mr Woyome expressed concern over the substantial amount spent on meals for the athletes during the 18-day event.
He has called for a thorough investigation into the expenditure and the overall management of the Games.
“We discovered that a staggering $15 million was allocated for feeding athletes during the 18-day event,” Mr. Woyome stated.

At the end of the Games, Ghana achieved its highest medal count in the 59-year history of the competition, securing a total of 69 medals. The country earned 19 gold, 29 silver, and 21 bronze medals across 10 sporting disciplines.
Notably, arm-wrestling made the most significant contribution to Ghana’s medal tally, accounting for 41 medals, which represents 60% of the country’s total haul.
