Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin on Monday, January 13, walked out of the vetting of Attorney General and Minister for Justice-designate Dr. Dominic Ayine.
The action of the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Appointments Committee followed a question by Suame MP John Darko regarding a potential conflict of interest involving Dr. Ayine’s law firm.
The Chairman and Akatsi South MP, Bernard Ahiafor addressed the issue, but Mr. Darko insisted on revisiting it.
Mr Ahiafor, however, ruled the question out of order, resulting in a heated exchange and accusation of unfairness against the former.
The Effutu MP who shared in the sentiments of his caucus member accused the Chairman of being biased.
“Chairman, with the greatest respect, I have observed consistently the way you go at my members, especially the young ones, the new ones, it’s not the right way. I’ve been quiet watching, and I will just be pinching you ‘Mr chairman. Please take it easy. Take it easy’ but the way it is going, It is not too right,” the Minority Leader lamented.
In protest of Mr Ahiafor’s decision Mr Afenyo-Markin walked out of the session.
“Then you guys should do your thing since you have the majority,” he said as he walked out.
He was followed by Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei and Okaikwei Central MP, Patrick Yaw Boamah among others who are members of the committee.
Meanwhile, the Minority Leader has earlier accused the Chairman of intimidating members of his side.
