Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has supported the Winneba Municipal Health Directorate with GH₵100,000 to aid in the fight against cholera.
Currently, three people have died from the cholera outbreak, with 29 confirmed cases in the Effutu Municipality of the Central Region.
Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Alhaji Kassim Zubeiru presented the amount on behalf of Afenyo-Markin on Wednesday.
The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including some chiefs, was also present.
In an interview with Adom News, Alhaji Zubeiru commended the MP for the bold initiative, saying it will help cushion the Health Directorate.
“This morning, we are here with some party executives, chiefs, and people of Atekyedo to make a donation of GH₵100,000 to support the fight against cholera. The MP is ever ready to support in the fight against the disease, although he is not in the constituency now,” he said.
He also cautioned residents along the coastline of Effutu to maintain hygienic conditions and avoid open defecation, which has been identified as one of the primary causes of the disease.
Effutu Municipal Health Director Paulette Brown also commended Afenyo-Markin for his timely intervention.
