The incumbent Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Ato Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has urged unity and calm among party members in the face of the NPP’s defeat.
“The NPP should not be sad. Let’s accept it and thank God. If we start playing the blame game, we will destroy the party. Instead, let’s come together and rebuild” he said.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin encouraged his party to remain optimistic, expressing confidence that the NPP’s achievements would eventually be recognized.
“We are yet to see a policy that will turn the corner for the NDC. Let’s give ourselves like one year, and Ghanaians will now see the good things we did during our government,” he added.
Reflecting on the loss, the lawmaker maintained a positive outlook.
“I am not sad because I believe it had to happen, and it has happened. Let’s be calm and see how to move forward in life.”
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, he stated that the NPP is leaving the NDC with a strong economy.
He also expressed optimism about leading a formidable minority group in Parliament in 2025.
“NPP can take back all the lost seats in four years with hard work. NPP will be stronger very soon,” he assured.
The December 7, 2024 elections reshaped Ghana’s political landscape, with the NDC securing a parliamentary majority and John Dramani Mahama emerging victorious in the presidential race. Mahama defeated the NPP’s candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in a closely contested election.
