Afenyo-Markin condemns raid on Ofori-Atta’s home

-

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has condemned the raid on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s home, describing the action as unlawful.

The Effutu Member of Parliament (MP) questioned the legal basis for the raid, arguing that it was unconstitutional.

“There was no such law supporting the actions. The contention here was that the man’s home was raided unlawfully. That conduct was unconstitutional… we’re not sending the right signals to the electorates,” he stated on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Cantonments. Reports indicate that Mr. Ofori-Atta is currently in the United States for medical treatment. However, his wife and other relatives were present at the time of the raid.

Eyewitnesses claim the group consisted of about 12 individuals—five in military uniforms, one in a police uniform, and the rest in plain clothes.

However, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga cautioned that Parliament was not the appropriate forum to address the legal matter.

“You go to court for the court to declare that your property and dignity have been violated. In court, the two sides will be there…” he noted.

Meanwhile, Ayariga said he would update the House on the full details of the raid on the former Minister’s residence.
