Afenyo-Markin accuses National Security of theft in raid on Ex-BoG Governor’s home

-

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has alleged that operatives of the National Security who raided the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, on Wednesday, March 19, took away valuables, including cash and jewelry.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the operatives, led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, removed an undisclosed amount of cedis from Dr. Addison’s bedroom and took earrings and necklaces belonging to his wife.

Addressing the press on Thursday, March 20, he condemned the raid as unlawful and an abuse of power, calling on President John Mahama to take immediate action against those involved.

“Some GH₵10,000 on his bed could not be found. So some of these hungry party foot soldiers they use, who parade themselves as National Security Operatives, are perhaps not being paid and use this opportunity to steal,” he stated.

He further claimed that this was not an isolated incident, citing a similar raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in February 2025.

Eyewitnesses reported that heavily armed officers, some wearing balaclavas and wielding AK-47 rifles, disabled the CCTV system before searching the house.

Afenyo-Markin has urged civil society organizations and human rights groups to speak out against what he described as a growing trend of political persecution.
