AFCON 2021: I want to hold on to hope – Sam George on Black Stars

-

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram says he is hopeful the senior national team, Black Stars, will emerge victorious at the end of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, despite defeat in their first game against Morocco.

According to Sam Nartey George, there are two more games for the Black Stars to play at this stage of the tournament; thus, the Milovan Rajevac-led team, before these games, can rectify their mistakes and progress to the next stage of the match.

“Still, I want to believe. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. I want to hold on to hope. 2 more games to go! It is still possible to twinkle in Cameroon! Let’s go, Black Stars!” he tweeted on Monday.

On Monday, the Atlas Lions of Morocco beat the Black Stars to lead Group B.

Ghana, however, started the game as the stronger side as they saw more of the ball in the opening exchanges until the 15th-minute mark when their opponents grew into the game.

Following the defeat, many on social media were devastated, but others stated that the Black Stars will recover from the loss.

Before the game, President Akufo-Addo and former President John Dramani Mahama charged the Black Stars to give their best to win the fifth trophy and end the 40 trophyless years the country has experienced since the fourth cup in 1982.

“We can make the Black Stars a force to reckon with once again on the continent and world football beginning with this tournament. Go for gold, go for the fifth AFCON trophy.

“We can do it. I know we can do it. May God bless the Black Stars and us all, and may God bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong. I pray we and the Black Stars have a great tournament,” President Akufo-Addo said.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Cameroon kicked start on Sunday, January 9.
