The Interim Executive of the BlueLight Traders Association (BTLA) has issued an unqualified apology to the Interior Minister, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, following the rejection of his donation items.
In a statement, the executive publicly condemned the action, attributing it to miscommunication.
They also appealed for the return of the donated items to be properly distributed to the affected traders.
The donation, presented on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, included 1,500 bags of rice, 800 boxes of cooking oil, and soap.
However, some traders expressed dissatisfaction, stating that they did not immediately need the items. To further convey their displeasure, they chanted “Yempɛ ɛmo,” meaning “We don’t want rice.”
The Interim Executive clarified that the behavior of a few individuals did not reflect the sentiments of the wider trading community.
They expressed gratitude for the government’s support in the aftermath of the disaster.
“We sincerely apologize to Hon. Muntaka for this regrettable occurrence, believing strongly that this action was a result of misunderstanding and miscommunication among some members.
“In distressing times like these, frustrations and emotions can run high, sometimes leading to unintended expressions of displeasure. However, such conduct does not represent the values or intentions of the Association as a whole,” the statement concluded.
