A day after a major fire outbreak at the Blue Light Arena in Adum, Kumasi, smoke and flames are still visible in the rubble.
The commercial hub, which housed shops selling mobile phones, accessories, jewellery, clothing, and second-hand goods, suffered one of the worst fire disasters recorded in Kumasi.
Scores of shops have been reduced to rubble, with metal containers burnt beyond recognition. Victims of the fire have been seen trying to salvage any remaining items, while anxious traders, fearing the fire could spread further, are moving their goods to safety.
According to the National Ambulance Service, at least nine people, including firefighters, sustained injuries, while others were left traumatized by the incident.
Ashanti Regional Manager of the Service, Sommik Duut Millon, said victims who suffered injuries and panic attacks were treated and later taken to the Manhyia Government Hospital and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
“Feedback from the hospitals indicates that the victims are responding well to treatment, with some already discharged,” he stated.
Meanwhile, an excavator is demolishing structures that sustained less damage to create access for firefighters to douse the remaining flames.
