Adum Fire: KMA, NADMO order trader evacuation for lorry pathway construction

-

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have directed traders operating near the Blue Light Arena to evacuate to allow for the construction of a lorry pathway.

The move comes in response to accessibility challenges faced by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) during last Friday’s devastating fire outbreak at the commercial hub.

The fire ravaged shops housed in two-storey buildings in the bustling business district.

The incident occurred at the well-known Blue Light Arena, near Hello FM, and quickly spread despite efforts by firefighters to bring it under control.

Officials stated that the congested layout hindered firefighting efforts, worsening the destruction.

Speaking to JoyNews, Ofori Agyeman Boadi, popularly known as “King Zuba,” who spoke on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, said the evacuation is part of measures to prevent future fire incidents and improve emergency response in the area.

Traders and shopkeepers have been given a two-day ultimatum—Saturday and Sunday—to relocate before the demolition exercise begins.

Authorities have urged all affected individuals to cooperate with the directive, as officers will commence the clearing operation on Monday, March 24.
