Adu Boahene, wife’s movement restricted as court reviews bail condition

The Accra Human Rights Court has reviewed the bail conditions for the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, following a suit filed by his lawyers.

The court has reduced Mr. Boahene’s bail sum from GH¢120 million to GH¢80 million, with two sureties, one to be justified.

However, the bail conditions for his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, remain at GH¢80 million, with two sureties to be justified.

Additionally, the couple has been restricted from traveling without permission from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), where they are required to report three times a week.

The couple was arrested last week over their alleged involvement in the embezzlement of GH¢39 million meant for cybersecurity infrastructure. They have been in EOCO custody since their arrests on March 20 and March 21, respectively.

In court on Friday, March 28, their lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, made a strong case for a downward review of the bail conditions, which the court eventually granted.

However, Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem Sai argued that the two were flight risks, citing an ongoing investigation into the possible possession of foreign passports in addition to their Ghanaian passports.
