Adom News gets results: Krachi West, Nchumuru, and Nkwanta North Districts to get 20 megawatt solar plant

-

Residents of Krachi West Municipality, Krachi Nchumuru, Nkwanta North, and other adjoining districts in the Oti Region are set to receive a 20-megawatt Solar Power Plant.

This will end the long-standing power crisis in the area.

According to Adom News’ Obrempongba Owusu, the region has been plagued by frequent blackouts for over five years, severely impacting businesses.

Management at the Krachi Government Hospital threatened to close down  even faced its mortuary and other departments due to the power crisis.

Oti Regional Minister DSP (rtd) Daniel Machator, accompanied by officials from the Volta River Authority, visited the Krachi Traditional Council and requested about 20 hectares of land from the chiefs for the solar power project.

He said this initiative is part of the government’s commitment to provide sustainable and reliable energy solutions to the area.

The solar power project aims not only to stabilize electricity supply for residents of Krachi West and its environs but also to reduce their dependency on the national grid, which has struggled to meet the area’s growing energy demands.

Reliable electricity, the Minister stressed, is crucial for improving quality of life and fostering economic development in the three districts.

In addition to addressing the power crisis, the project is expected to create job opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the region.

Mr. Machator announced that with community support and government commitment, the construction of the solar power plant in Krachi West is scheduled for completion by the end of November this year.

He urged the community to rally behind the project and collaborate closely to ensure its successful implementation.

Nana Mprah Bessemuna III, President of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, expressed gratitude for the government’s initiative to tackle the power crisis in the area.

He assured full cooperation to ensure the project’s success and stressed the importance of sustainable energy solutions in addressing regional challenges.

Nana Mprah pledged the chiefs’ commitment to working closely with the government and other stakeholders for the effective installation of the solar power plant.
