The Ampabame M/A JHS in the Ejisu Municipality has held a fundraising event to fund the construction of a computer laboratory to crown the school’s 60th anniversary.
The week-long celebration was under the theme: “Preparing Students for the 21st Century, Getting it Right with Discipline”.
Headmistress, Alice Atsepaa Amoro, asserted that although her administration has chalked some successes including increase in enrolment from 68 students in 2012 to 187, there are still challenges which need to be solved.
She called on the government and philanthropists to come to their aid.
“We have challenges here. We need an ICT Center, and our library needs to be restocked with current books to help the students. Also, we only have one toilet facility that serves both Primary and JHS students.
“This puts pressure on the facility and creates awkward situations. We are therefore appealing to the government, philanthropists, old students and all whose education matters to come to partner with us in making our dreams for the school a reality,” she pleaded.
Municipal Chief Executive, Samuel Oduro Frimpong, admonished the students to be disciplined and not just learn facts and knowledge.
The Ejisu Municipality gave 50 bags of cement as a startup seed for the ICT Laboratory Project and promised to finance computers after the completion of the building.
Akwamuhene of the traditional area, Nana Eric Abebrese, and the various clan heads in the town collaborated with the old students and residents to raise more than 20,000 cedis to fast track the start of the building.
Students of Ampabame M/A JHS entertained the guests with exciting displays from chorale, cadet and traditional music dance and poetry recitals.
