Award-winning environmental journalist from the Multimedia Group, Erastus Asare Donkor, has cautioned colleagues taking money from people involved in illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.
“As the Fourth Estate of the Realm, Erastus has urged journalists to hold duty bearers accountable in the fight against galamsey and not contribute to the problems of society.
The P.A.V. Ansah 2022 Journalist of the Year made the clarion call in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.
He emphasized the media’s crucial role in the fight, which has caused devastation to water bodies, the environment, and health.
‘Some journalists go to the financiers of galamsey to take money and insult people fighting the menace. We have a role to play in promoting the good governance we want.
‘We can never win the fight against galamsey if we contribute to taking money and shy away from our duties because we will all suffer the brunt of galamsey. It is no respecter of person or party colours,’ he stated.”
