President-elect John Dramani Mahama has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the country’s security agencies to take swift and decisive action to address the rising incidents of lawlessness following the December 7 general elections.
Reports suggest that alleged supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have stormed several state agencies, ransacking offices and causing disruptions.
In a national address on Tuesday, December 10, Mahama condemned these acts of vandalism and lawlessness, calling for an immediate halt to the attacks on state offices and installations.
“These actions are unacceptable and must stop immediately. I call on the President and the security agencies to act swiftly to restore law and order,” Mahama declared.
The President-elect appealed for calm, urging citizens to respect the rule of law during this critical transition period.
“I’ve received reports of attacks on state offices and installations. While the identities of the perpetrators remain unclear, I unequivocally condemn these acts. They must cease at once,” Mahama emphasized.
He urged Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to channel their frustrations into constructive efforts aimed at nation-building rather than destructive actions.
“As I said in my post-declaration speech, I urge the youth not to express their frustration through criminal acts. Instead, let us channel our anger and energy into positive efforts to reset and rebuild our beloved nation,” he added.
Mahama reiterated the importance of unity and peaceful cooperation during this period, stressing that state power remains in the hands of the current administration until the transition is complete.
“We have fought hard for change, and now is the time to show our commitment to rebuilding Ghana through unity and peaceful means. Let us avoid actions that could harm our institutions and democracy,” he noted.
He called on the president and security agencies to act decisively to restore order and prevent further chaos.
“I urge the President and the security agencies to take immediate and resolute steps to curb these ongoing acts of lawlessness,” Mahama concluded.
