The Africa Center for Digital Transformation (ACDT) has warned banks, savings and loan institutions, and rural banks in Ghana about the heightened risk of cybercrime following a recent global tech failure.
In a statement signed by Executive Director Kwasi Atuahene, it was noted that a faulty software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike caused widespread system failures affecting various sectors, including banking, aviation, and healthcare, on a global scale.
Following this incident, ACDT has alerted Ghanaian financial institutions about a fake CrowdStrike hotfix update that is currently circulating online.
To mitigate the impact of the recent global IT outage and strengthen their resilience against future incidents, ACDT advises Ghanaian banks to activate backup systems and redundancies.
Additionally, ACDT continuously monitors IT systems for any anomalies or security threats that may arise during the outage and ensures that cybersecurity measures remain robust and operational to prevent exploitation by malicious actors.
By implementing these proactive measures, banks in Ghana can reduce the impact of the outage, maintain customer trust, and improve their preparedness for future incidents.
