Accra Sports Stadium to undergo renovations after Ghana-Chad match

-

The Accra Sports Stadium will undergo further renovations following Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.

The stadium had already been closed for several months after hosting Ghana’s final match against Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Speaking on TV3 Sports Station on Monday, March 17, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams emphasized the need for the refurbishment to meet international standards.

“I think after this game, we have to close the Accra Sports Stadium to refurbish it and bring it up to standard,” he said.

He noted that while some improvements have been made—including upgrades to the pitch, dressing rooms, sanitary facilities, and air-conditioning—further work is necessary to restore the venue fully.

“The stadium has been left in a bad state. We have worked on the pitch, and the coach is satisfied with it. We have also fixed the sanitary areas, dressing rooms, and air-conditioning,” Mr. Adams added.

Ghana will take on Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before traveling to Morocco for their final qualification match against Madagascar.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars have commenced their preparations, holding their first training session on Monday with nine players in camp.

The team is determined to secure victory against Chad to boost their chances of qualifying for next year’s tournament.
