The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has fined Ghana Premier League club Accra Lions GH¢5,000 for misconduct.
The club was found guilty of making inappropriate social media comments about match officials following their 1-0 defeat to Dreams FC at the Tuba AstroTurf.
Accra Lions escalated the controversy by suggesting after the match that external influences had played a role in the outcome, implying that the game was unfairly decided in favor of Dreams FC.
According to the GFA Disciplinary Committee, the club’s post “brings the image of the game into disrepute.”
The GFA Prosecutor stated that Accra Lions violated Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019. The club’s social media remarks questioned the integrity of match officials, an act deemed misconduct.
In addition to the fine, the club has been warned to refrain from similar actions in the future to avoid further sanctions.
