In a bid to strengthen emergency response and maritime security in the Krachi West Municipality of the Oti Region, Member of Parliament Helen Adjoa Ntoso has donated two emergency speed boats.
The boats are set to improve health services for residents of Agla-Korpe and enhance patrol and rescue operations for the Navy detachment based in Kete-Krachi.
The donation ceremony drew community leaders, health officials, and Navy personnel who hailed the gesture as timely and essential.
Speaking to Adom News, the MP explained the purpose behind the donation. “Access to healthcare is a fundamental right, and we must ensure that our communities are equipped to handle emergencies effectively,” Ntoso stated.
She noted that the speed boat for Agla-Korpe will help transport patients quickly to healthcare facilities, especially during emergencies, potentially saving lives.
“The new boat will drastically cut the time it takes for patients to reach medical attention, especially for those in remote and hard-to-reach communities along the waterways,” she added.
The second speed boat was handed over to the Navy to help improve their ability to patrol the area and respond to emergencies on the lake. With frequent reports of accidents, including boat capsizes and drownings, the MP highlighted the need for quick response capabilities.
“The safety of our fishermen and travelers on the lake is a shared responsibility, and the Navy plays a crucial role. This boat will enable them to act faster during distress calls,” Ntoso emphasized.
She also urged the Navy and community members to handle the boats with care so they could serve their purpose for years to come.
Chief Petty Officer W.O.2 Kennedy Abotsi, stationed at Kete-Krachi, commended the MP for the donation, calling it “a major step toward improving both health and security for the people of Krachi West.”
He assured the MP that the Navy would put the boats to good use and remain committed to ensuring the safety of residents on the waterways.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi West, Prosper Addo, also praised the initiative, noting that the absence of emergency boats had long posed risks to lives and properties along the river bodies.
“This donation is a clear testament to the MP’s commitment to the well-being of residents and will bring real change to how emergencies are managed,” Addo said.
The two speed boats are expected to immediately improve healthcare delivery and security response across the municipality.
