Abrumase farmers appeal to govt over death trap roads

-

Farmers in Abrumase in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region, are calling on the government and NGOs to come to their aid as the road linking Abrumase to Yeji has deteriorated into a death trap.

The road, which spans over 70 kilometers, has been in poor condition for more than a decade, but the situation has worsened recently.

Agya Yaw, one of the commercial farmers in the area, told Adom News that farmers struggle to transport their produce to Yeji township for sale, with vehicles frequently getting stuck in the muddy, waterlogged road.

This has led to farm produce rotting before it can reach the market, resulting in financial losses for farmers who depend on agriculture for their livelihood.

During a campaign tour, Malik Basintale, the Deputy National Communications Officer of the opposition party, also faced the reality of the poor road network.

His convoy got stuck while heading to the Kulow Traditional Area.

He criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to address the issue despite claims of improving Ghana’s road infrastructure.

“Nana Addo and Bawumia should come and see for themselves the condition of this road. Their claims of fixing roads across the country are far from the reality here,” Basintale remarked.

The road has become so bad that no commercial vehicles regularly operate on it, except on Mondays, which is the market day in Yeji.

Residents rely on tricycles for transport, but even that has become increasingly difficult.

The people of Abrumase are pleading for swift intervention to improve their road network and prevent further hardships.
