The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has pledged to take legal action to ensure the government compensates all victims affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.
The spillage, which occurred in September 2023, displaced thousands of residents in the Lower Volta Basin and severely damaged farmlands and livelihoods.
Speaking at a victory walk organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in his constituency, Mr Ablakwa reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the rights of those affected.
He stressed that the government’s promised compensation must be honoured, and his fight for justice would not stop until the victims receive their due compensation.
Ablakwa underscored the devastating impact of the disaster, calling on the government to take urgent action to provide relief to those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.
“I have assured my constituents that we will not abandon them. We will ensure that all victims of the VRA’s spillage are fully compensated,” he said.
“We are pursuing legal action to compel the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government to fulfill its responsibilities. We will not rest until my constituents receive the compensation they deserve,” he added.
