The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Abetifi Constituency of the Eastern Region has resorted to traditional rites, invoking curses to deter party agents from betraying the party during tomorrow’s general elections.
Former Deputy Youth Organizer for the constituency, Nana Agyei Mireku, led the ceremony at Kwahu Kotoso in the Kwahu East District, where eggs, schnapps, and the sacred River Afram were used to invoke the curses.
The ritual was directed at any party agent who might accept bribes to sabotage the NDC’s chances of victory in the elections.
Speaking to Adom News, Nana Mireku explained that the decision to invoke curses was prompted by experiences from the 2020 elections, during which alleged bribery among some agents led to the party’s loss in key areas.
“We cannot afford a repeat of what happened in 2020. Any agent who accepts bribes to betray the NDC will face the wrath of the gods. We are doing this to ensure loyalty and dedication to the party’s cause,” he stated.
Nana Mireku also called on party agents to uphold integrity and resist any attempts to undermine the NDC’s efforts to secure victory in the elections.
The invocation of curses has drawn mixed reactions from residents and political observers, with some viewing it as a desperate measure while others see it as a commitment to holding party members accountable.
As tensions heighten across the country ahead of the polls, such actions underscore the stakes involved for political parties in ensuring loyalty among their ranks.
