A/R: Former ECG MD builds police station in Asotwe to beef up security

Former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Agyeman Budu, has built a police station for the Asotwe community in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti region.

Speaking at the commissioning, Dr. Budu believes the security of the community is a priority hence the need for effective policing.

“I had to form a community volunteer patrol team to help fight armed robbers in the community especially at night. Today, we are commissioning a police station to beef up security here,” he said.

He further called on the community volunteer information to the police in combating crime in the area.

Ashanti South Police Commander, DCOP George Ankoma, has called on the philanthropists and NGOs to help construct police stations in areas that lack them.

“It is the wish of Ghana Police to have a post in every community, but we are not financially strong to support that, so we are also grateful to people who assist us by building a police station for us “, he said.

He believes there is need for police presence in various communities to facilitate development through the maintenance of law and order.

“If the civilians refuse to feed us with information, we cannot act to deal with the perpetrators of crime, so we are counting on you to give us information,” he said.

The Ashanti South Police Commander urged residents to restrain from attacks on police.

The Queen mother of Asotwe, Nana Adwoa Sika Brayieh, delivering her speech at the ceremony, said the police officers who will be deployed to the community to exhibit high level of professionalism.

“Your role is crucial, and we trust that you will continue to serve us with respect and fairness”, she noted.

The Asotwe police station has a charge office, three cells including male, female, and juvenile cells.

Officers for various departments for the police officers, a motorbike was donated for patrols.
