Mahama nominates Kofi Adams as Minister of Sports and Recreation

President John Mahama has nominated the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, Kofi Adams, as Minister of Sports and Recreation.

The nomination was confirmed following the release of the third batch of ministerial appointments, which are awaiting parliamentary approval.

Kofi Adams, who is expected to go through vetting, will replace Mustafa Ussif, who served as the Minister of Sports from 2021 under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo’s New Patriotic Party.

The 49-year-old, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology with an emphasis on Epidemiology of Parasitic Diseases, has a wealth of experience in both education and politics.

Though he will be taking on a challenging role in sports, Kofi Adams had expressed his commitment to seeing the industry thrive prior to the announcement.

“I will gladly accept the Sports Minister position if appointed,” he told Accra-based GhOne TV.

“Let’s return to grassroots sports and implement it effectively.”

The politician is expected to bring positive change to the industry, focusing on sports infrastructure, funding for national teams, and improving performance at major tournaments.
