President Nana Akufo-Addo has no interest in persecuting successful businessmen in the country believed to be financiers or members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong says the President is rather concentrating on seeking to end the usual occurrence of witch hunting in the country.
The five month old administration has been accused of witch hunting businessmen believed to be aligned to the cause of the NDC.
Critics of the administration and the President cite the younger brother of former President, John Mahama, Ibrahim Mahama as an example of people aligned to the NDC who are now persecuted by the NPP government.
Ibrahim Mahama has been given a deadline to settle off a debt owed Customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority for failing to pay for goods he cleared from the courts.
The business mogul has also been forced to settle the SNNIT contributions of his workers which were in arrears.
But Ken Agyapong who is noted for bringing into the public domain, the Ibrahim Mahama issue said President Akufo-Addo is never in support of the idea of witch hunting business people and politicians at large.
“Nana Addo once sat me down and asked me when I think this scenario of one government imprisoning its opponents on assumption of power, he is not out there to antagonize anyone because he believes it would distract the smooth running of the government…,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo, he added is only interested in going according to the dictates of the law.
