The Chief of Sayoggu, a farming community in the Bunkrugu-Yunyoo District of the Northern Region and three others including his son have been assassinated in renewed chieftaincy clashes between the people Sayoggu and Sabiluuk over a parcel of land.
Residents suspect the murder could have been triggered by a protracted land dispute between Sayoggu and Sambikuk, all towns near Nankpanduri in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo district of the Northern region.
The Chief of Bunkprugu, Alhaji Abuba Nasingmong, confirmed to Adom News Sunday.
He indicated that a sub-chief, his son and elder brother were murdered the farm by a hooded gang who laid ambush and overpowered them Sunday morning.
According to the chief, the two communities engaged in heavy gun battle when information of the killing reached the Sayeegu faction. Another person from the Sambiluk was also reportedly killed in the exchanges.
Bad road and poor communication networks delayed security forces reaction and heightened tension among the feuding parties.
It is not clear whether the murdered Chief and his family trespassed on the disputed land.

People from the two towns exchanged gunfire after news went viral about the death of the chief.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Tamale Teaching hospital morgue pending autopsy.
