Drama unfolded at the Babayara Sports Stadium yesterday as Asante Kotoko failed to covert three penalties awarded them in their Confederations Cup match against CARA club of Congo.
They, however, converted a fourth penalty awarded in the dying minutes of the game which was converted by substitute Yakubu Mohammed in the 90th minute.
Asante Kotoko SC had an explosive start with the intention to kill the game from start and their pressure paid off when they won a penalty in the tenth minute but Saddick Adams missed failed to convert the spot kick.
CARA came close to getting the opener but goal keeper Felix Annan was called to duty and chinned a timely save to keep the game barren before half time.
Kotoko kept their composure and possession of play in the second half and had two more penalties but Amos Frimpong and Baba Mahama both failed to convert their chances to send the Porcupines ahead.
CARA also had their fair share of the penalties for the afternoon but like their counterparts, their goal keeper, Massa Chansel, missed failed to score, ensuring that they travel back to Congo with no points.
Asante Kotoko will enplane to Congo in a fortnight for the return encounter hoping for a better result to make it to the next round of the Confederations Cup.
