Tanker explosion kills two at Atuabo

At least two people have perished at Baku, a community near the Atuabo Gas Processing Company in the Western Region after a tanker truck explosion.
Confirming the incident to Empire News’ Emmauel Ohene Gyan, District Police Commander, Supt Thomas Bayor said the deceased were identified as Samuel Kenyah, a sixteen (16) year old welder apprentice who died on the spot while Amos Tetteh, the driver’s mate died at the Eikwei mission hospital.

The other two injured persons have also been identified as Michael Boavo,26 and Jackson Bosompem, 23yrs both welders who are currently receiving treatment at the Eikwei hospital.
According to Supt. Bayor the driver of the Gas tanker, Eklu Agbormegah, a resident of Ashaiman with vehicle registration number GN 6228 – 14 was traveling from Takoradi to the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant when the vehicle developed a fault.
He then moved to the welding shop for the problem to be solved. In the process the vehicle exploded and killed the apprentice instantly and injured the others.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Axim government hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The driver is currently in the grips of the Ellembelle police assisting investigations. – Emmanuel Ohene Gyan.
