Audio: I have not stolen any govt car – Eric Opoku

-

The Member of Parliament for the Asunafo South constituency in the Brong Ahafo region, Eric Opoku has stated unequivocally that he has not stolen any government vehicle.

He maintained that, a Mitsubishi L200 double cabin pickup vehicle with registration number GE 9934-16 seized by the police is his bona fide property.

Mr. Opoku comments come after police in Asunafo South District intercepted the red with black strips Mitsubishi L200 vehicle being driven by his aide, Prince Nyarko during a police patrol team on the Bibiani-Kukuom road last week.

According to the Police Commander, DSP Alfred Akwasi Boakye, they suspect the vehicle belongs to the state and have asked the gentleman to produce the necessary documents covering it.

“My men on duty last night spotted the vehicle without a front number plate, roadworthy documents and other requirements. They suspected it could be one of the missing vehicles and therefore intercepted it. As we speak we are investigating the matter”, he noted.

But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Hon. Eric Opoku expressed shock at the development.

He indicated that, he bought the car for the 2016 electioneering campaign and handed it over to the constituency for party work.

“Prince Nyarko was my campaign manager in the 2016 elections and I asked him to run an errand for me only for police to stop him for the car. Has government any bought any Mitsubishi Pickup for someone to steal it” he quizzed.

The former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister bemoaned the rumbo-style cars are seized from people without recourse to due diligence.

“I am surprised the police have not gone to Customs or DVLA to check for the documentation of the car. I have not stolen any government vehicle as it is being alleged” he stated.

Hon. Eric Opoku who is currently out of the country is contemplating legal action to salvage his dented image.
