Over 900 people displaced after downpour – AdomOnline

A heavy rainstorm last Friday at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region destroyed 109 homes including schools and left 932 people homeless.

The storm which destroyed high tension polls causing blackouts in some parts of the town also demolished three schools namely Fima Dwabeng A/G Academy school, Dormaa SDA Primary school and Yawbofokrom M/A primary school.

Headmaster of Dormaa SDA school, Oheneba Owusu Kyeremeh, told Adom New the situation has affected teaching and learning.

As an immediate measure, she said the pupils study under trees until they are provided with a new structure.

The Municipal Educational Director, Mr Nsiah Edward said they will introduce a temporary shift system as the district assembly takes steps to rehabilitate the affected classrooms.

“We have located a temporary place for teaching to continue, the affected schools are not going to closed down. It is a big blow to us since teaching is not going to all that serious. It is going to affect we the teachers and the children since it will depend on how fast the renovation will take”he said.

Some affected residents in the town have called on government to come to their aid.

“We are in about 20 people in a room since the storm had unroofed our buildings we putting up with friends and relatives or living in temporary structures at the mercy of the weather…” they pleaded.
